The municipality of Burgas in Bulgaria awarded with European prize for transport policy

The municipality of Burgas awarded with European prize for transport policy
 
 
During the Annual meeting of the European confederation for managing mobility which took place in Sweden, the municipality of Burgas on the Black Sea coast has been awarded for sustainability of the urban policies in the field of transport management. The municipality of Burgas has participated as a pilot municipality and has been also an object of audit for accessibility and quality of granted transport services in the framework of the project EcoMobility SHIFT, financed by the Intelligent Europe Program. The EcoMobility is a system for evaluating of the urban development and sustainability, created by a network of partners. Through the system have been assessed 6 European cities, including Burgas. The evaluation methodology includes 28 indicators, divided in three groups for evaluating the capability of the municipality to plan, develop and analyze the undertaken measures for improving and facilitating the access of citizens to transport and implementing also different ecological means of transport, excluding personal cars.
 
Thanks to the measures and actions of the municipality of Burgas for limiting the traffic on the center of the city, the renewal of with low emission autobuses and the overall improvement of urban surroundings, the municipality has received very positive evaluation on all the indicators and has been awarded by a bronze award for ecomobility. The award has been handed out by the organization ICLEI – the organization of the Local Governments for Sustainability.
