1. Local Pledge
The global village highlighted the interdependencies existent between Developed and Developing Countries, as well as the need to adopt a model of inclusive globalization. Without sustainability it’s impossible to shape a fair, equitable, efficient and effective model of development. Municipalities have an imperative role in promoting the three dimensions of Sustainable Development: social, environmental and economic. It is in their territories that these dimensions converge more intensely.
To achieve the goals related to sustainability, Municipalities need to demonstrate their political will, establish synergies and common strategies that will not only benefit the local community, but also global communities. Promoting sustainable and inclusive development at local level demands strong political will. Hence, Municipalities which aim to become a Glocal Municipality must:
:: Publicly sign the Local Pledge Commitment;
:: Promote, along with the Go Local Campaign a local mechanism for the implementation of the ‘5 Goals towards a Glocal City;
:: Ensure the coherence of intermunicipality cooperation policy with Development principles;
:: Engage and cooperate with other entities in favour of international commitments like the Millennium Development Goals.
GO GLOBAL
Because dynamics of development are global, we will show through projects and documents, the importance of the action of local governments and municipalities in the pursuit of international commitments such as the Millennium Development Goals.
