GO GLOBAL
Developing Countries have seen their situation worsened with the present crisis and its social and economic consequences. Although several countries were affected, the poorest are the most affected. A fragile economy disturbs all the sectors of society: from poverty to education, from health to environment protection it is necessary to ensure policy coherence in a way that allows sustainable development in all areas. The European Union and its member states, committed with the prosecution of Millennium Development Goals, need to have the ability to measure the impact of the decisions they take regarding the reform of the world economic and financial system to avoid increasing the number of people living in poverty.
Also Local Authorities have an important role to play. Every year Local Authorities spend more than 2 thousand million euros in the purchasing of products, goods and services, having a huge impact in the balance of the financial and economic system. Through cooperation agreements with Developing Countries, Local Authorities can invigorate local economies from both communities, especially by introducing social and environmental criteria in their procurement procedures.
