How to make cities more resilient: a handbook for local government leaders

resilient

This handbook provides mayors, governors, councillors and other local government leaders with a generic framework for risk reduction and points to good practices and tools that are already being applied in different cities for that purpose. It discusses why building disaster resilience is beneficial; what kind of strategies and actions are required; and how to go about the task. It offers practical guidance to understand and take action on the "Ten Essentials for Making Cities Resilient" as set out in the global campaign "Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready!".

In the current context of economic recession and global financial, with glaring impacts the lives of millions of people is imperative to mobilize and sensitize the Portuguese society for the understanding of poverty and social exclusion as human rights violations. And this is the goal of the initiative "For Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion", which runs from 15 to 19 October.
It is intended that the "For Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion" - joint organization: Amnesty International, AMI - Medical International Association ANIMAR, EAPN Portugal / Lisbon District Center, Foundation Aragon Pinto, Parish of Santos-o -Old (social Committee) - keep your expression and increase national to the European level, and in this sense is open to participation by all stakeholders, promoting activities of mobilizing and awareness for the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
It is hoped that the activities:

Contribute to raising awareness of the issue in question;
Call for the participation and activism;
Covering as much as possible all public areas and involving different sectors of civil society;
Involve, wherever possible, the participation of people in poverty and / or social exclusion;
Allow the use of the organizations resources, reducing costs
